The Evil Mastermind

“…you know how you can tell who the arch-villain’s going to be? He’s the exact opposite of the hero.” Every Hero has an archenemy, The Evil Mastermind.

After writing “Enter Our Hero” I thought it only appropriate that I right a villain theme

Enter Our Hero

Enter Our Hero was composed for a class assignment in 2005. It is my take on a classic hero theme inspired by pulp adventurers like Indiana Jones, Doc Savage, and The Shadow.

The Surgeon’s Son (2010)

In 2010 I scored soundtracks for two animated shorts by different Graduate Students in The Ohio State University ACCAD program. One was “Holly Hype” by Amber Cecil and the other was “The Surgeon’s Son” by Ryan Hale. I posted the trailer to Holly Hype on my youtube channel with a blog post here on my website back in April. When I announced my website through my “Playin Around Town” email news letter earlier in August I got a reply back from Ryan with a link to “The Surgeon’s Son.”

So here is the complete animated short for your viewing pleasure.
Information about the film and Ryan is below.

Untitled from Ryan Hale on Vimeo.

This story is based on the adventures of the filmmakers’ relative, Dr. Nathan S. Hale. Nathan wrote a memoir entitled Cut Boldly Down, Medicine, Nature, and a Life of Curiosity: A Surgeon’s Memoir which is on many levels a very personal account of his life and members in his community. During the production of this film, the story became a reflection of Nathan’s early childhood activities. By using key artifacts from his past as containers for his memories, and sets which are designed as virtual dioramas, this narrative animation is a visualization of Nathan’s imagination and curiosity.

Ancient Ritual

While I was running, Ancient Ritual started playing on my mp3 player. I hadn’t listened to the song for a quite some time so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it. As I ran and the song played I realized that I really like this song and many other tracks that I’ve written. That is when I came up with the plan to add them to my youtube channel so I can share and potentially give the music some more exposure.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Be sure to “like” and “subscribe” and visit my website often. I plan to add more.

Holly Hype Trailer (2010)

This is the trailer for Holly Hype a film by Amber Cecil and I scored the soundtrack. Information about the film and Amber is below.

Holly Hype
This animated short is about a child Holly Hype who often exaggerates reality. When circumstances are uneasy, Holly’s world is projected through a large, creative eye. This perception overpowers reason, and places her in chaotic, uncontrollable situations. Holly’s asymmetrical eye is representative of her unbalanced outlook on life, where emotion rules and logic is blinded. She seeks comfort in her bedroom, turning to the therapeutic hobby of knitting to relax her wondering eye. It is through this activity that a balanced perspective is discovered amongst the hype.

Powell & Market 14

Take a ride on a San Francisco cable car… “Powell & Market 14.”
The composition, “Powell & Market 14″ isn’t a score for the video but was inspired by my 2010 trip to San Fran.

Man of Tomorrow

Originally written for the Go Hero’s compilation CD “Kaijuice 2,” which has been shelved, “Man of Tomorrow” is inspired by classic Sci-fi, Pulp classics like Captain Future, Commando Cody and the Rocketeer but with a 21st century twist.
